Eugenie Bouchard embarrassed herself, her fans and her country when she drew two code violations in her most recent loss. She was playing in her home town and country when she smashed her racquet during the match because things were not going her way. She will likely get a small fine for this outburst in front of her beloved fans. Her lame excuse for losing is that she cannot stand the pressure her loyal supporters place on her. In my view, she is a national disgrace and a disgrace to the sport of professional tennis that has made her rich.

Professional tennis deserves better than Eugenie Bouchard. She is young, good looking, rich and once had a promising future. It is apparent she cannot handle any of these attributes. At this point the only thing Eugenie Bouchard has succeeded in is drawing bad press.

After all this she will soon be off to represent Canada in tennis at the Olympics in Rio. I can only hope she will represent Canada better in Rio than she did in Canada at the Rogers Cup.Larry Birkbeckhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14071889359429860518noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11258142.post-74995365003629262712016-07-29T00:44:00.001-06:002016-07-29T21:48:14.165-06:00The Harper EraCompliments Huffington Post
Sitting there waiting until all the traffic has gone is a irritating to all the traffic waiting behind you. And if you have a merge lane then you really don't have an excuse to sit there holding up traffic.

Another tip is for drivers coming off a clover leaf in an attempt to merge with vehicles moving at speeds much greater than yours. Be mindful that you will have at least a half a kilometre to get up to speed and make your merge. You are wrong to cut in front of faster moving traffic until you get up to their speed. The last time I saw this driving error almost killed the stupid driver who cut in front of a semi tractor trailer when they had a whole half a kilometre to get up to speed before merging. Take my advice on these driving tips before you kill yourself or someone else.Larry Birkbeckhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14071889359429860518noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11258142.post-85894161223383535032016-06-26T21:15:00.000-06:002016-06-26T21:27:17.118-06:00Self-regulated Bodies

A word about self-regulated bodies. Lawyers are regulated by the Law Society of
Saskatchewan. A body of lawyers
regulating the conduct of their own.

Judges are more difficult to deal with respecting any
misconduct. If one is not pleased with a
judge for whatever reason they can file a written complaint to the Canadian
Judicial Council. If you don’t agree
with their decision you can make an application at the Federal Court for
Judicial Review of the Canadian Judicial Councils decision. This would be judge’s ruling against judges. How well will that work for you as a mere
citizen?

The Saskatchewan Medical Association and the College of
Physicians and Surgeons both play an important role in monitoring and managing
complaints respecting practicing physicians and Surgeons. If you are concerned with any misconduct
respecting doctors, Surgeons or any other person acting as a professional within
the health care system then you are well advised to write a letter to either
the SMA or the College and they will instruct you as to your appropriate course
of action.

Then there are the elected politicians and appointed
Senators. Politicians are regulated by
the House of Commons if what they say or their actions take place within the
confines of the House of Commons.
Senators are regulated by themselves with the confines of the
Senate. If what wrong doing of politicians
or Senators messes with laws not controlled by either the House of Commons or
the Senate then you end up with another Mike Duffy trial. Senator Duffy was found not criminally
responsible of any of the charges brought against him, but the Senate is still
going after him for alleged inappropriate expense claims. And so the saga continues.

All of the above professions, and I use that word loosely as
it applies to politicians and Senators, need to consider carefully if the
overall public good is being respectfully served by self-regulation. And it should apply especially as it regards
judges across Canada.

<span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif; font-size: 12.0pt;">The screening process for
getting the bad apples out of the barrel apparently needs an overhaul. Individual citizens need to be protected in the
interests of the public good from self-regulated bodies. Now who will lead that charge?Larry Birkbeckhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14071889359429860518noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11258142.post-55676467009973905222016-01-20T14:50:00.000-06:002016-06-28T08:29:28.555-06:00Extreme ConservativesHere are three extreme conservatives that stand out from the rest. Donald Trump, Sarah Palin and John Gormley. The only thing that separates them is the fact that one is a woman and the other two are men. And of course two live in the United States and one lives in Canada.

I too am a conservative from an ideological perspective. When the conservatives go into extreme mode then I just unplug from the conservatives. Extreme is not a good place to be from a political perspective. Most voters tend to be rational and in the middle of the political spectrum.

It would not surprise me if John Gormley has model CF-18 Fighter Jets hanging from his office ceiling as a reminder to attack Justin Trudeau each day on the issue of when the CF-18's will be pulled from the fight against ISIS. Or will the Jets be withdrawn sometime on or before the date set by former PM Stephen Harper. That date I believe is in March 2016.

The fact is Canada's Jets hitting targets in Iraq and Syria are mostly symbolic and a display of good faith that we are all in with the US led coalition. The Canadian Jets according to a report from the Department of National Defence is that since November 14, 2015 our aircraft have been involved in just 3% of the coalition's airstrikes against ISIS.

It seems our Jets have been hitting more targets since Justin Trudeau came to power, but I don't have those facts. I would not want to be seen as extreme so disregard my comments on this speculation.

Then in addition to the US led coalition we have Russia's military firing randomly at targets in Syria using missiles fired from their submarines. And who knows how many Jets the Russians have in Syria fighting ISIS.

These are the rational facts. If you want extreme then turn on your radio in the morning and Have a Great Day!

God has Blessed Canada with enormous wealth and prosperity. Unfortunately, not everyone shares in the opportunity for a good standard of living due to, for the most part, illness, addictions, lack of education and to some extent where one lives in Canada.

Then there are some who simply choose not to work. You can call it lazy, lack of initiative or poor self esteem. Canadians and the government need to address these issues. It is in the interests of everyone and our country to get the unemployed healthy, educated and working again.

It is very important to Canada and all Canadians if we are to continue as a wealthy and prosperous country. May God continue to Bless Canada as we prepare to move into 2016.Larry Birkbeckhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14071889359429860518noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11258142.post-83944557399211136812015-11-16T22:48:00.000-06:002015-11-16T22:48:01.985-06:002015 Federal Election

What more can be said about the recent 2015 federal
election? To begin with governments
usually defeat themselves when in power too long. This was the fate of the Harper
conservatives, but it was not entirely the fault of Stephen Harper. The conservative caucus should have had the
courage to stand up and oppose Mr. Harper and the power he controlled out of
his Prime Ministerial Office. They were
too afraid of being thrown under the bus and the voters finally took control
and threw them out of office. They got
what they deserved.

The election results reflected the voters mood for change,
the Harper conservatives ran a poor election and the liberals played to the
mood of the voters during an unnecessarily long election. Adding to the liberals support was the
collapse of the NDP vote on their poor choices during the campaign. I am pleased with the election results. Justin Trudeau and some new faces in
government is just what Canada needs.

I caution the new liberal government to not get caught up
with their good fortune. Yes they have a
majority government, but they need to remember their win was not all on their
own brilliance. It was as much the
failure of the other two parties during the campaign and this can all turn on a
dime in a very short time.

Finally, the media and the official opposition, in the
interests of Canada, should back off petty and speculative attacks on the
government. Giving this new majority
liberal government time to govern may assist in supporting necessary cooperation
among our Members of Parliament.

Not many and for those whom do only the NDP support will be hurt as Tom Mulcair has come out fully against the trade deal.

Liberal leader Justin Trudeau has correctly stated he supports the TPP. His concerns are that the deal has been finalized in the middle of an election campaign with no transparency for the voters. Further, if elected Prime Minister he will rightfully examine the TPP in detail and move forward from there.

The TPP will only hurt the NDP and it will do little to improve Stephen Harper's support as the conservative vote has peaked and has been stalled around 30% for most of the election.

The media and others will claim Justin Trudeau is undecided over the TPP. That is not true as he only feels he needs to examine the details of the TPP on behalf of all Canadians before he approves the TPP. That is a responsible position for any responsible leader like Justin Trudeau.Larry Birkbeckhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14071889359429860518noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11258142.post-8267823480857989092015-09-30T23:58:00.001-06:002015-10-01T00:00:20.257-06:00Mud SlingersStephen Harper and Tom Mulcair have slung more mud than the Alberta Oil Sands at Justin Trudeau. The problem is it never sticks on Justin Trudeau and to his credit he has mostly stayed out of the mud slinging in this federal election.

Justin Trudeau has shown he is a tough politician who refuses to back down to his older opponents of Stephen Harper and Tom Mulclair. They thought he would crumble and fade away after the cruel and personal attacks they both threw at him. The fact is Justin Trudeau shines brighter every day as his older opponents find themselves falling in the polls.Larry Birkbeckhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14071889359429860518noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11258142.post-12197101865368967672015-09-30T23:38:00.000-06:002015-09-30T23:40:09.601-06:00The Russians are ComingIf the Russians want to take on ISIS in support of Syria as they claim, is there a good reason why the US led coalition should not get out of the Middle East?

The Russians have an agreement with Syria, Iraq and Iran to engage in conflict with ISIS. It seems those countries have already chosen the Russians over the US led coalition.

I say let the Russians have at it and the US led coalition can just pull out and save us all a lot of money. President Obama says we are losing the war in Syria and Iraq and there are few who disagree except Stephen Harper. He believes that ISIS will invade Canada if he pulls out all those six CF-18 fighter jets.

Stephen Harper has made the argument repeatedly during this federal election that he is providing safety for Canadians by having a half dozen fighter jets fighting ISIS in Syria and Iraq. I don't buy that argument and especially since the US led coalition has lost the confidence of Syria, Iraq and Iran to the Russians.

Stephen Harper is misleading Canadians by claiming our involvement there is making any difference. We are only there as a token to satisfy the US and if they pull out you can be sure Harper will do the same. Then what argument will he be left with?Larry Birkbeckhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14071889359429860518noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11258142.post-18900630427005288782015-09-28T11:52:00.000-06:002015-09-28T12:00:41.601-06:00Harper Conservatives strip Canadian CitizenshipIf you are a Canadian citizen with a dual citizenship and convicted of terrorism or some other act of terror you will have your Canadian citizenship revoked and you will be sent back where you came from.

Now that all sounds good on the surface, but consider these facts. There are 80 Canadians that took their holidays training and fighting with terrorist groups like ISIS and have since returned home. If the Harper conservatives know this then how were they allowed to leave the country and, more importantly, how were they allowed to return to Canada? These 80 Canadians that fought with ISIS should be rounded up and thrown in jail for life with no parole. You can not strip them of their Canadian citizenship unless they acquired a citizenship with Iraq or Syria or some other country while they were off on their fighting holiday with terrorists like ISIS. So life in prison should be the answer for these 80 Canadians the Harper conservatives claim have been fighting abroad with ISIS.

Further, the Harper conservatives know there at least 130 Canadians currently out of the country fighting with ISIS. How did this happen? Will the Harper conservatives succeed in stopping them from returning to Canada? It would be less expensive than letting them come home. If they are let back into Canada they should be put in jail for life with no parole.

The Harper conservatives enacted Bill C-24 to deal with terrorism for the protection of Canadians and to allow our authorities to track suspected terrorists here and abroad. It is apparent the legislation is not meeting it's intended objective.

The Harper conservatives are ill prepared to protect Canadian Embassies around the world since they cut Embassy funds to balance the budget in their effort to win another election. The Harper conservatives are failing to protect Canadians at home or abroad and Bill C-24 is not the answer.

Now ISIS, according to the Harper conservatives, are apparently threatening to kill Canadians. They have made that claim before, but the current election brings it back into the news. Further, it should be expected. We kill them and they kill us. That is how war works! The Harper Government supports the US led mission to fight ISIS in Iraq and Syria. It is costing Canadian taxpayers hundreds of millions with no evidence of success. It is a war that will go on for years until we finally give up and come home as we did in Afghanistan.

The Harper conservatives also have Canadian troops in Ukraine and are supporting Ukraine with a variety of initiatives. Canada is the sixth-largest bilateral donor in Ukraine costing hundreds of millions of more Canadian tax dollars. Maybe the Russians will be the next to threaten Canadian safety and security.

If the Harper conservatives want to engage Canadians in various wars around the world they should expect more threats on Canadian soil. It is the nature of war. The Harper conservatives foreign policy has changed Canada from the Peace Keepers to the Aggressors and that is why they introduced Bill C-24 that threatens our cherished Canadian Citizenship.

Canada may not be safe under any government until we change our foreign policy on how we deal with conflicts around the world.Larry Birkbeckhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14071889359429860518noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11258142.post-14341361335652550262015-09-19T09:56:00.000-06:002015-09-19T09:56:00.750-06:00Justin TrudeauLarry Birkbeckhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14071889359429860518noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11258142.post-3323501844869891562015-09-13T23:04:00.001-06:002015-09-13T23:04:37.961-06:00Stephen Harper denies the FactsStephen Harper says the liberals will run deficits to pay for their election promises. Well, he would know about deficits as he hasn't balanced a budget since he was elected Prime Minister in 2006. These continuous deficits under the Harper conservatives make Stephen Harper the proud owner of 160 billion dollars of new debt he has added to the national debt. He has run the worst economy in Canada in the last 80 years. There is no reason in fact or truth to trust him any longer with our nation's economy. He simply can't be trusted any longer!Larry Birkbeckhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14071889359429860518noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11258142.post-58835912329232478022015-08-29T10:37:00.000-06:002015-08-29T10:37:12.327-06:00Harperman VideoLarry Birkbeckhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14071889359429860518noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11258142.post-31463636608934360512015-08-27T17:28:00.000-06:002015-08-27T17:28:25.307-06:00Trudeau Attacks and Harper DefendsThe worst thing a political party can do in an election is to be left spending their campaign time on the defensive. He has been defending on the Duffy trial and what he knew or didn't know. If he knew nothing, as he claims, and all the King's Men knew everything then where does that leave Stephen Harper as a leader in the PMO's Office?

The whole stinky mess surrounding Duffy went on for days and all the PMO's staff were involved claiming they don't read all their emails. With all this rumble out of the PMO's Office going on Stephen Harper claims he knew nothing. No one believes Harper because no PM in the history of Canada has been more controlling.

In fact, if he had only stuck to appointing Senators he would not be in any trouble, but he chose to control them as well and now he has spent most of his campaign to date on the defensive saying he knew nothing. Well, I believe Canadian voters expect their Prime Minister to know more than nothing on such important matters.

Justin Trudeau is now out there announcing policies and Stephen Harper is again on the defensive chasing Justin Trudeau who appears to more than ready and more than Harper can handle. The most we can expect out of Harper are more mean-spirited attack ads, which perfectly reflect the character of Stephen Harper. Mean, divisive and obsessed with power and control. It is time the voters defeated him so he can go and contemplate how he has betrayed Canadian voters.Larry Birkbeckhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14071889359429860518noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11258142.post-16415590886451290292015-08-25T10:06:00.001-06:002015-08-25T10:06:29.424-06:00Trudeau calls Harper a "lone wolf"An excellent speech by Justin Trudeau.Larry Birkbeckhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14071889359429860518noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11258142.post-38137972667284964152015-08-24T17:23:00.000-06:002015-08-24T17:25:22.090-06:00Stephen Harper Misleading VotersStephen Harper is misleading voters when he claims he is the best person to guide the Canadian economy going forward. Today he claimed his government is a government of balanced budgets. We all know better as he has never balanced a budget since he became Prime Minister. He inherited a surplus from the liberal government and then went on to run up a 158 billion dollar national debt. Conservative governments have always had a history of failing to be prudent with taxpayer's dollars.

We are in our second recession under Harper's poor management of our economy. We are approaching near 200 thousand fewer jobs now than when Stephen Harper became Prime Minister. Job quality is at a 25 year year low and household debt is near a record high.

Stephen Harper brags about all the trade deals he has been making with countries around the world. The fact is Canada this year has topped a 13 billion dollar trade deficit. Stephen Harper's economic record is the worst of any Prime Minister in Canada's history except R.B Bennett in the 1930's.

Stephen Harper's economic record is the worst economic record in 80 years. Just today Stephen Harper was again misleading voters on the matter of the economy by suggesting he is the best person to guide Canada going forward. We have trusted Stephen Harper since 2006 and he has betrayed the voters of Canada on the economy and damn near everything else. Stephen Harper is just not ready to run this countries economy any longer.

In the last week the global economy has faltered out of fears that China's economy is faltering. Now Stephen Harper is attempting to blame Canada's poor economy on global markets. Again he is misleading the voters. He messed up Canada's economy from the very beginning without any problems in the global economy.

Here is the amusing part. Stephen Harper and the media are asking where Justin Trudeau and Tomas Mulcair will get the money to pay for their promises. The media don't bother to ask Harper because everyone knows he will just run up the national debt to pay for more conservative election promises if they should form government again. Heaven forbid!

The liberals have a record of balanced budgets while they were in power. Eleven in a row and Stephen Harper cannot manage one. If voters are concerned about the economy then vote liberal because Justin Trudeau is ready and he has a team of experienced MP's to support him. If you love socialism at it's finest then vote for Tomas Mulcair and keep in mind he is about the only one with any real experience as an MP. The rest of his team will be all giddy searching for maps to the washrooms and the MP's dining lounge if they form government.

Voting for Stephen Harper will be a sad choice that will send this country into another round of deficit budgets and a national debt that will set new records as a legacy to our youth. Voting for Tomas Mulcair will send this country into the greatest socialist experiment in the history of Canada.

In my view voters only have one choice and that is the Justin Trudeau liberals whom are ready to stand and deliver. They are best positioned to serve the voters of Canada and free Canada from the misery of Stephen Harper. The liberals are the best balance of public and private policies to allow all Canadians an opportunity to succeed and prosper within a transparent and honest government.Larry Birkbeckhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14071889359429860518noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11258142.post-18900570612399052852015-08-16T12:06:00.001-06:002015-08-16T12:06:56.908-06:00The Closing of the Canadian Mind - The New York TimesThe Closing of the Canadian Mind - The New York Times:Larry Birkbeckhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14071889359429860518noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11258142.post-10815582943455876502015-08-16T12:02:00.001-06:002015-08-16T12:04:34.425-06:00How California Is Winning the Drought - The New York TimesA model for all Canadian politicians.
